Chassis Performance Modifications (Primary Use)
Suspension System Upgrades
Replacement of shock absorbers, lowering springs, coilovers, air suspension systems, reinforced control arms, sway bars, and bushings; all require vehicle lifting for installation.
Brake System Upgrades
Installation of larger brake calipers, rotors, pads, stainless steel brake lines, and master cylinders, as well as brake fluid bleeding; all rely on the use of a vehicle lift.
Wheel and Tire Modifications
Mounting and dismounting wheels, installing wider tires, spacers, and wheel adapters; performing removal and installation tasks prior to wheel balancing and alignment.
Drivetrain and Reinforcement Upgrades
Replacement of reinforced drive shafts, differentials, engine mounts, chassis reinforcement components, subframe braces, and chassis tie rods.
Exhaust and Powertrain Modifications
Upgrades to downpipes, mid-pipes, and tailpipes; catalytic converters; exhaust valves; and exhaust sound enhancement kits.
Removal and installation of engine skid plates and oil pans; installation of oil cooling systems, oil line upgrades, and transmission reinforcement components.
Exterior and Protection Modifications
Install side skirts, lower body kits, underbody skid plates, underbody protective coating, and anti-scratch guards.
Install underbody lights, ambient lighting, and under-chassis decorative lighting.
Off-road modifications: Install underbody armor, tow hooks, off-road skid plates, and snorkel-related underbody piping.
Four-Wheel Alignment and Tuning
A four-post lift paired with alignment equipment is typically used; precise four-wheel alignment is mandatory after modifying the suspension or wheels to adjust camber and toe angles.
Vehicle inspection and commissioning
After the road test following modifications, the vehicle is lifted to re-check for loose components, fluid leaks, and abnormal noises.
Manual modification tasks such as chassis reinforcement, welding, spraying, and anti-corrosion treatment.
Commonly Used Lifts in Modification Shops & Their Features
Two-post lift: The mainstream choice; offers an unobstructed view without pillar interference, making it ideal for undercarriage, exhaust, and suspension modifications.
Four-post lift: Primarily used for four-wheel alignment and modifications on heavy-duty off-road or commercial vehicles.
Scissor lift: Compact footprint and quick vehicle entry/exit; suitable for stations handling minor exterior work, tire services, and simple modifications.
